celebrate

Christmas day, and no call from the friend I was supposed to go the movies with. No response to my calls or texts. Day turned to night, concern to anxiety. I started to paint movement and clutter. In the wee hours of the morning, the call came. My friend was in the hospital, his bike struck by a car on an icy road. But he was going to be fine. A painting of tension, now one of celebration.
